Mangels Endowed Lecture: Elizabeth Alexander - Rescheduled
Kane Hall, Room 130

NEW DATE: Please join us on Tuesday, April 26 for the rescheduled visit with Mary Ann and John D. Mangels guest lecturer, Elizabeth Alexander.

Elizabeth Alexander

In a nation of immigrants, our society has become even more nuanced and diverse, especially with our Kenyan-Kansas African-American President raised in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and in Asia. Elizabeth Alexander, chair of African American Studies at Yale University, served as the nation’s fourth inauguration poet delivering her "Praise Song for the Day" poem at the swearing in of President Obama in January 2009. Considered to be one of the most vital poets of her generation, Dr. Alexander will address the prospect of a new conversation about race and culture in Hearing America Singing: Multi-Vocal Cultures in America.

Learn more about Elizabeth Alexander and other speakers in the UW Graduate School's public lecture series.

More than 40 years after its inception, GO-MAP continues to lead the University of Washington's recruitment and retention of graduate students of color and those from other underrepresented groups by providing fellowships, mentoring, networking opportunities and professional development.
