2012 Libraries Blom Lecture: Stephanie Coontz

Stephanie CoontzPlease join us for the 2012 UW Libraries Blom Lecture with Stephanie Coontz, who will present Madmen, Working Girls, and Desperate Housewives: American Women at the Dawn of the 1960s.

Coontz teaches history and family studies at The Evergreen State College in Olympia, and is Director of Research and Public Education for the Council on Contemporary Families, which she chaired from 2001-04. Coontz is the author of A Strange Stirring: The Feminine Mystique and American Women at the Dawn of the 1960s (Basic Books, 2011) and the award-winning Marriage, A History: How Love Conquered Marriage (Viking Press, 2005).

Coontz has published articles in the New York Times, The Observer/Guardian, The Times of London, Wall Street Journal, Salon, Washington Post, Newsweek, as well as in such academic and professional journals as Annals, Journal of Social History, Family Therapy Magazine, Chronicle of Higher Education, National Forum, and Journal of Marriage and Family.

Cost: FREE

The Daniel C. and Ellen L. Blom Endowed Library Fund was created to fund honoraria or other expenses for speakers on subjects of cultural interest to the Libraries. Nicole Blom Heath created this endowment in honor of her parents, Dan and Ellen Blom, as a permanent reminder of their love of books, literature and learning.
