2013 Graduate School Public Lectures: Ron Eglash
Kane Hall 120, UW Seattle

Ron Eglash

Computers are more powerful than ever, and technology is improving every day. Ron Eglash acknowledges that their power is used to serve the military and industry, but what if it was used more often to advance the visions of Ghandi and Martin Luther King Jr.? He will answer that question in his lecture, Computing for Social Justice and Sustainability.

The likes of nanotechnology, DIY sensors, and crowdsourcing offer exciting implications for social justice and sustainability, as they can become drivers for innovation and research. Eglash will look at the state of technology today and discuss how it can impact future social change.

Ron Eglash is a professor in the Department of Science and Technology Studies at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Learn more about Dr. Eglash.
