Clare Ryan

Welcome to a new academic year!

So many exciting things are happening in Environmental Studies.  If you haven’t seen our new website  check out our new look and information for alumni and friends. Don’t forget that you can subscribe to our blog where we post lots of great information about our current programs and students, as well as career opportunities for our alumni and friends.

Our Student Association for Green Environments (SAGE) is collaborating with the UW Alumni Association to bring former PoE lecturer and “Stand-Up” Economist Yoram Bauman to campus to discuss “How would a carbon tax work in Washington?” on Nov. 7, 5:30-6:30 pm in Room 145 at the HUB.

Our Sustainability Studio class is working on ‘Greening Husky Athletics’, and our seniors are completing their capstone projects, and will present their work at our Capstone Symposium on Dec. 2nd and 4th – please join us! For more information please email Megan Horst or Sean McDonald

On a more somber note, our Administrator Tikvah Weiner lost her battle with cancer this past September.  To honor this radiant spirit and friend to many, Tikvah’s community of friends at the University of Washington is inspired by her life to build a garden that captures her joyful spirit and brings people together in nature.  Tikvah’s Garden has been approved by the University and I hope you will join me in making a gift to see this vision realized.

In alumni news, expect an email very soon notifying you of a PoE Alumni survey. And as always, if you would like to become more involved with the PoE Alumni Board [], please let us know! We would love to have your input and great thinking as we reconnect and network with alumni, and mentor current students.

Best wishes
