Greg DuncanAmazon Principal Economist and Economics Affiliate Professor Greg Duncan Introduces Machine Learning Economics Course
ECON 484: Econometrics and Data Science is one of the first courses of its kind in the U.S. It will be offered spring quarter to both undergrads and graduate students in the department.

Dr. Mu-Jeung Yang will consider the work of 2013 Nobel Laureates in Economics Fama, Hansen, and Shiller, who were awarded 'for their empirical analysis of asset prices'.

George CarlsonMeet 2014 Distinguished Alumnus Dr. George Carlson, BA '64
Dr. Carlson spent many years at the U.S. Treasury, where he was Director of the Office of Tax Analysis, overseeing the group that prepared the economic analysis in support of the Tax Reform Act of 1986.

Alan HaynieAlan Haynie, PhD '05, Awarded Presidential Early Career Award
Dr. Alan Heynie was awarded the 2013 Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers through his work at NOAA's Alaska Fisheries Science Center.

The department was deeply saddened by the death of Dr. Suzanne Scotchmer, BA '70. A professor of economics at the University of California, Berkeley, Dr. Scotchmer delivered the keynote address at the 2013 department graduation ceremony.
