Work That Resume (and work it well)...
ON OUR MINDS
There are a ton of examples of resumes out on the web - from
basic to complex, and even some that are a bit silly. Some places may suggest that you even send it in some gimmicky wrapping paper, glitter and stickers, but you know what, that only rarely works (and only with certain positions).
The best
thing you can do to land a job or an internship is show up with a well-polished, professional resume. "How do I get one?" you ask? Well, it's easy, just follow these steps:
- Stop by our website for some tips on how to put one together,
- Go to a Resumes & Cover Letters workshop and,
- Come by for a quick 15-minute walk-in and show it to one of our career counselors,
- Buy paper (so you can print it out),
- Be at the 10/8 Resume Cafe to have actual employers critique it and help you put your best on paper.
Following these steps may not guarantee you'll be the next superhero in a few months, but at least you'll be on the right track!

Employers are Looking for You!
Pay Attention
With the start of a new academic year, comes a clean slate, a chance to do everything you didn't do last year and everything else you want to do this year ("...of course I won't stream Family Guy every night, mom!").
If this is the year you want to find a job or an internship, then you should be paying close attention to the employers that interview on campus. Employers like Amazon, Chevron, and Deloitte, not to mention Facebook, Google and Philips (oh, and about 60 others) are coming to campus this quarter - specifically to interview Huskies like you!
Now, you can't just interview with them willy nilly - you have to apply first! Login today to HuskyJobs and find out who you should apply to. Read More »

Are You Being Socially Screened Out?
News of the Day
Gone are the days when all you had to worry about was your resume and cover letter. Although those are still a primary part of your job search, more and more employers are using social networking sites to screen potential candidates.
Did you know:
- 45% of employers reported in a recent CareerBuilder survey that they use social networking sites to screen potential employees, up 23% from last year!
- Of those who conduct online searches, 29% use Facebook, 26% use LInkedIn and 21% use MySpace.
While some people are taking advantage of this and putting on their professional face, everywhere, some aren't (can we say pictures of the latest party, where you're...). Anyway, there are many ways you can make sure you're not screened out through your social network. Read More »

Eating at a Buffet for Business
Quick Tip
When can you begin eating after you have served yourself at a buffet? Technically, you can begin eating as soon as you take your seat. However, in a business setting, it is a good idea to wait until two or three other people join you, so you do not appear impatient or ravenous.
