Veterans’ Day 2010
On November 8, the Associated Students of
UW Bothell (ASUWB) and the Chancellor’s Office hosted a Veterans’ Day Reception
to commemorate Veterans’ Day 2010 and honor the over 100 veteran students on
campus
During
the reception, “First Gentleman” Mike Gregoire (Spouse of Governor Chris
Gregoire) and Director John Lee from the Washington Department of Veterans
Affairs praised the campus for all its efforts in providing assistance to
student veterans.
First
Gentleman Gregoire, Director Lee and Chancellor Chan signed the Partners for
Veteran Supportive Campuses certificate which officially recognizes UW Bothell
as a veteran-friendly campus.

Bothell Business Development Center Celebrates Five Years

On Tuesday, November
16, University of Washington Bothell Business Development Center (BDC)
celebrated its 5th Anniversary with close to 200 business and community
supporters. The BDC recognized its founders, professor Steve Holland, professor
Walt Freytag and former BDC Director Brooks Gekler, with its 1st
Annual Founder’s Award.
Additionally, the breakfast
event announced the BDC’s new 2010-2011 Entrepreneurs-in-Residence program, and
announced plans for its first annual Business Plan Competition in May of 2011. Learn More.
Student Awarded Mary Gates
Leadership Scholarship

UW
Bothell International student, Ignace Hounwanou of
Togo, West-Africa, was awarded the Mary Gates Leadership Scholarship. Currently in his senior year, Hounwanou
anticipates graduating in June of 2011 with his Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
The Mary Gates Leadership Scholarship is designed to
encourage students to develop leadership abilities with peers and mentors.
Students who receive the award are given an academic grant of $4,000.

University of Washington Bothell professor, Ron
Krabill, along with colleagues Georgia Roberts and Angelica Macklin, visited
South Africa during the 2010 FIFA World Cup and partnered with Cape Town
Community Television to produce a series of short films looking at the impacts
of the World Cup on multiple communities in Cape Town.
The project was focused on the significance of the
World Cup being held in South Africa, and on the African continent, for the

Bothell Welcomes Sean Marsh
University of Washington Bothell hired Sean Marsh as
its new Assistant Director of Advancement and Alumni Services. Sean will be responsible for creating a strategic program
of broad-based engagement with alumni and other constituents of the University.
In addition to constituency and alumni
relations, Sean will also play a leading role in fund raising and events. Learn more

research practices shift as they move across disciplines and sectors, and think

design. Each presentation is held the first Tuesday of the month in UW1-280
