Dear Colleagues:

Diagram of UW Marketing's splitWe’d like to jointly announce to all of you an evolution in the world of UW Marketing: It is now becoming two distinct—but still closely linked—departments: University Marketing, led by Key, and Advancement Communications, led by Cheryl. The primary goal of making this change is to optimize the University’s marketing and communication efforts so that the UW overall and the University Advancement and External Affairs missions specifically are well supported.

Each organization will now have a dedicated team focused solely on a unique portfolio of work (such as the next major fundraising campaign for Advancement; legislative needs for External Affairs) while still partnering on projects that benefit the University-at-large, like celebrating the UW’s 150th anniversary.

So, what does this mean for you?

It means you’ll receive even better, more targeted support from us. One thing you don’t need to wonder about is whom you should call about which topic. We encourage you to continue working with whichever members of the former UW Marketing team you’re accustomed to. If we need to loop in someone from one of our two teams, we’ll take care of figuring that out so you don’t have to, but we’ve included more details below if you want to know more.

“UW 360” to Be Broadcast on KOMO TV

UW 360 logoKOMO TV will begin broadcasting episodes of “UW 360” on March 4 at 4:30 p.m. — the slot just prior to their afternoon newscast. The broadcasts will continue for about 13 weeks and will include recent and past episodes from the series.

New Website for Sharing Unit Operational Best Practices

Collaboration map from 2y2d siteUW Activities & Improvements: Sharing Ideas for Teaching, Learning, Research and Administration Across the UW is a new database-driven website that collects examples of a wide range of best practices in both academic and administrative units. The activities in the database illustrate the principals and goals of the Provost's Two Years to Two Decades (2y2d) Initiative. The idea for this site came from academics and administrators across campus who said they wanted a way to find good ideas and connect quickly with peers. The database also helps the UW community to share examples of ways we are increasing revenues, decreasing costs and investing strategically.

Communications professionals can search the site find stories of creative and practical ways members of the UW community are maintaining and enhancing quality in their units. To share an idea from your unit, fill out this online form. Anyone with a UW NetID can view or contribute to the database. All entries are reviewed before posting.
